Frequently Asked Questions

Have Questions? We Have Answers

At Oh Baby Fitness we recognize firsthand bellies/babies and schedules don't always go hand in hand. Illness occurs, nap time changes and we do our very best to accommodate every situation that may arise. Our classes are based on a 6-week schedule. If you are unable to attend a class during the 6 weeks you will be welcome to make up that class during the next session. Please contact us if special circumstances arise. We want to ensure class consistency from week to week for all our clients and trainers.

Oh Baby Fitness outdoor seasonal classes have a NO RAIN only SHINE policy. If it is raining (or snowing) within 30 minutes of the start time for class the class WILL be canceled this does NOT include overcast or chilly days. Class WILL be running on those days. If you are questioning whether the class is running or not please contact us.

Physical activity can make you feel better and is beneficial for both you and your baby. The decision to be active during pregnancy may be the initial step toward a long-lasting healthy way of life for you and for your baby. Speak with your doctor or midwife before you begin, so you can talk about different types of activities and cover any questions you may have. It is important to start easy and progress gradually.

If you were physically active before you became pregnant, you may safely join the classes in your first trimester.  If you were previously sedentary or participated in sporadic physical activity before becoming pregnant, it is advisable to wait until your second trimester.  Detailed guidelines may be viewed by clicking on this link: http://www.csep.ca/communities/c574/files/hidden/pdfs/parmed-xpreg.pdf.

It's not so much as whether the baby is old enough, rather, if you have healed from your birth and are settling in well in your new role as a mother.  Generally speaking any time following your 6-week check-up and receiving the "ok" from your healthcare provider is perfect

If your baby tends to be quite vocal, this is the class for you!  It's a great way to get out, get some exercise, and know that you are not the only one!  Babies cry and if one class your baby needs you, know that next week it will be someone else and we're all in the same club.  Also, in all classes, baby comes first, and if they need you simply break away from class to tend to the baby - no need to leave the room!  If the baby needs to be held you can hold the baby and simply step through the moves or one of our trainers will be more than happy to offer baby cuddles - it's a great workout either way.

The Oh Baby prenatal and post-natal fitness programs were developed to tailor specifically to the pregnant and new mothers’ body. A woman’s physiology changes through each stage of pregnancy and the postpartum period and therefore certain, otherwise safe exercises, should be avoided. Also, certain muscle groups require specific targeting in order to prepare for labour and childbirth. For example, there is a strong emphasis on pelvic floor and diastasis recti (abdominal separation) education and exercise.

Also, a 30-minute discussion period has been incorporated into the program in order to provide information to our clients and encourage them to feel confident they're making the right decision for her and her family. Socialization is so very important during this time of a woman’s life and research has shown that being able to share pregnancy and parenthood experiences with peers helps to reduce the feelings of uncertainty and anxiety that often accompany this period of change.
